The HEC solution is a very simple separation device(the micro structured contactor plate) between the liquid phase and the gas phase. It allows both phases to be in contact without mixing the phases. The secret of the technology is that it allows a very shallow liquid phase channel enabling a very quick equilibrium settlement between the two phases. The time for an equilibrium to establish is approximately 1000-10000x faster  than in conventional distillation and stripping columns. As a consequence the system designer can design systems with a much larger effective mass transfer per m² than the current stripping and distillation columns( experimental data shows an improvement by more than 100 times!).
